Winterton Dunes Nature Reserve

Winterton Dunes Nature Reserve
Winterton Dunes

Winterton Dunes National Nature Reserve is a picturesque coastal reserve renowned for its sand dunes, vast landscapes, and diverse wildlife. The reserve harbours an array of bird species and is a significant breeding site for terns. It's also one of the few UK sites where you can spot the natterjack toad. The plant life is equally varied, with marram grass-covered dunes transitioning into heathland areas.

Near Horsey, Winterton Dunes is in proximity to notable seal colonies. The reserve also features delightful walking trails through the dunes and to the beach, perfect for wildlife watching.

As a National Nature Reserve, conservation is paramount. Its habitats, significant on national and international levels, contribute to the North Norfolk Coast Special Area of Conservation. Open to the public all year, the reserve has beach-side parking, but amenities are limited, so come prepared. Visitors should respect the wildlife and adhere to reserve guidelines to protect the habitats and their inhabitants.
